Hip hop, which started as a local phenomenon in the boroughs of New York in the 1970s, has gained increasing recognition on the global scene, achieving international institutional recognition with the integration of Breaking in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Part one of this conference will explore the history of hip hop, its cultural elements – McCing, DJing, breaking and Graffiti – and its contribution to mainstream American cultural identity – and worldwide identity – formation.  

La deuxième partie de la conférence explorera l’évolution de la scène hip hop à Rennes des années 90 à nos jours et reviendra sur les phénomènes qui ont contribué à la fondation et le développement du Festival Dooinit à Rennes.
